In Year of the Rooster, I explore identity through utilizing symbolism as a mechanism for storytelling. Inspired by my loved ones, this piece focuses on strength and the power that comes from appreciating roots that can sometimes feel disconnected from where you are now. Through oil, I depict the agency we have over how we resonate with our backgrounds, and how just because something feels far away, it doesn’t mean that it matters any less.
